Rolling Hills Estates

The city of Rolling Hills Estates was incorporated on September 18, 1957 in order to preserve the unique rural-residential and equestrian environment. The George F. Canyon Nature Center is a 36-acre, pristine wilderness refuge with nature trails through Willow-Riparian and Coastal Sage Scrub habitats. The center hosts educational and recreational programs. These programs foster preservation and understanding of the natural wonders and wildlife of the area. Programs include self-guided nature walks, naturalist led nature walks, science workshops, summer programs and lecture series. Following the theme of natural preservation, the City Council of Rolling Hills Estates has implemented a restoration and preservation program of vistas and scenic corridors with individual property owners, homeowners’ associations and neighborhood groups.

The Community Services Department of Rolling Hills Estates heads a variety of recreational, social and cultural activities for residents. Programs include the annual Summer Swim Program, the Ernie Howlett Park Tennis Club, the annual City Celebration, The Hills Are Alive 10K/5K Run-5K Walk, the Tracy Austin Tennis Tournament and the Peninsula Holiday Parade. The department also operates the Howlett Park Equestrian Center and sponsors many equestrian-related activities.
